Happy 1st Birthday...Again?!
There is something so special watching a family grow. And this recent cake smash session was a full-circle moment in the sweetest way. Little sister Lela celebrated her first birthday in the very same pink romper her big sister wore 4 years ago, complete with the word "one" across the front. This is special because her mom and dad miscarried a baby before her and it hit them pretty hard. So to be able to have another baby and another girl at that, wearing big sis' outfit was a must. I even brought back the same pretty floral rings I used in big sister's session, adding some nostalgia and tying the memories together beautfiully.
This family has had a special place in my heart for years. I first met mom because she was my son's kindergarten teacher. And she was the absolute best teacher I have ever known. She loves, loves, loves teaching, all of the children she has ever taught, and has the most bubbly personality which makes her so lovable. I've photographed her maternity photos, newborns photos, family photos, and of course cake smash sessions. Watching her family grow has been so much fun. Our connection definitely runs deep.
The cake smash itself was so hilarious and heart-warming. Lele went all in. She smashed, squished, and demolished her cake like a pro. Icing was in her hair, her face, and even in between her toes. She was living her best life and I was happily capturing it all. To wrap up her session I recreated her newborn spa photo. Same robe, same hair headband, same chair, same backdrop. It made for the best "then and now" image. This cake smash session was one for the books and I'm so honored I was able to capture lilt Miss Lela's big milestone.
