The Big One
We blinked and baby James went from newborn to big boy out of nowhere! Like, do we cry or smile or a little of both? My vote is laugh so hard that you start crying, so it's kind of justified. I digress.
Ok, ok, back to the real deal. I've photographed baby James and his family since he was in his mama's womb. So when I say I know them well, I really know them well. And how we got to James turning one so quickly is baffling. But anyway, Mom called me to get a Cake Smash session scheduled for him. And of course, with my custom cake smash options, I asked her did she have a theme in mind. She wanted to do a beach theme since they like the beach, boating, fishing, swimming etc. We settled on a theme of "The Big One." Think Hawaii, surfers, and beach waves. The big one, as in the big wave. Super cool and very fitting for baby J.
I got all the beach decor set up and added balloons for a touch of celebration. Everything was super cute, including James with his "Birthday Boy" t-shirt. Except he was not in the mood for pictures and had a little meltdown before we could really get started. You know, that's how it goes sometimes. So we paused for some hugs from mom, a couple of yogurt melts, and a little game of peak-a-boo. 10/10 recommend peak-a-boo and the ultimate baby laughing hack. Once he was relaxed I was able to get back to work and he did not disappoint. We did some portraits in his cute t-shirt, then switched over to some suspenders and shorts, to get messy and eat cake in.
It was a super cute cake smash session and we laughed so much watching him make the cutest little expressions while enjoying cake for the very first time. Take a look at some of the photos below and do yourself a favor and book your baby's 1st birthday photoshoot with me.
