It Takes A Village

There is so much beauty in the early days with a new baby, but it can also feel like a lot all at once. Being a newborn photographer in Orlando, FL for the past 8 years I have connected with many new moms who often times tell me about the challenging transition of having a newborn. If you have a friend who just became a mom, you don't need perfect words, just something genuine that reminds her she is not alone.

Here are 5 simple texts you can send that truly mean everything:

"Hey Just thinking of you today. Just wanted you to know that you are doing an amazing job!"

She might not believe it yet, so let her borrow your confidence. Mean it every time. She will need all the encouragment she can get to endure the sleepless nights ahead.

"I'm going to drop off dinner for you today. No need to get dressed. I will leave it at the door. Can you let me know what you'd like to eat?"

Instead of the typical "let me know if you need anything" text, step in and meet a need you already know she has. Like eating. She most definitely needs to eat to replenish her body and stay nourished, but she is in no position to have to cook. So just show up with food and leave it at her door like Door Dash. This will let her know she is cared for and give her one less thing to have to worry about.

"These first few days are supposed to be all over the place. How you are feeling is completely normal."

There is so much happening emotionally and physically within the first 30 days after a baby is born. From.... These kind of texts remind her that she can exhale. She is free to feel without explaining or having to justify herself.

"Your baby is so blessed to have you. You were the only one who could care and love them so much."

On the days where she questions herself, and pretty much all of her life choices because she is only working off of 3 hours of sleep, not showering in 2 days, and eating grabbing a hand full of grapes to eat between feeding the baby, this is a great way to speak truth over her. She is dealing with so much and just sending her a message of encouragement will make her feel seen and confident that she truly is a really great mother.

"Your presence is soothing enough for your baby."

The house will always need tidying, the routine will always be routining, and the expectations will change with the seasons. But none of that matters more than simply being in the moment, loving her baby. This text gives her the freedom to take contact naps with her baby without feeling guilty. It allows her to sit and stare at her miracle as if time doesn't exist. This frees her to pause, unapologetically, and savor the most precious moments she will ever experience on her motherhood journey.

It's the little things that stay with her. These texts will be what she reads and rereads at 2AM. These will be her reminders that she is held and supported in this season. And this season, even in its slow and scared rhythm, moves quickly. If you're a new mom or loving one closely, this is your reminder to step up and be the...
